Very occasionally things go wrong and we may need to revert to a previous DB backup and that means that we'll put the system into the state it was at the time of that backup. Anything done manually between that time and now may well have been lost. As we take backups every night we should only normally be one day behind.
Fortunately this is a very rare occurrence but, just in case it happens, here's what you need to know:
Membership
If you registered after the backup was taken then your account will no longer be on the system. To recover, re-register as before using the same email address. This is important because we use third party services for email and subscriptions and they are tied to your email address. Using the same address allows them to re-synchronise when your account is recreated.
If your membership renewed after the backup was taken then you might find you have lost your premium membership and are back to the free one as a result. This can be recovered by visiting your profile page and refreshing the page a few times. This might sound odd but we auto-synchronise with Stripe randomly one in every ten profile page visits specifically to ensure we stay synchronised over time. This process will also pull across your renewed membership and you should have your functionality back again.
Results entry
If you have entered any results manually after the backup was taken then those matches will no longer be on the system. Unfortunately, you will need to re-enter them.
Any matches received automatically via the feeds will automatically come over again within 24 hours.
Emails and notifications
If you had a new match, follower or other notification after the backup was taken and then it is likely you will receive another email or notification for the same event if it is reinstated after the restore.
Boxes admin
If you set-up or administered your boxes after the backup was taken then, unfortunately, you will need to redo what you did again. We appreciate this is potentially a lot of work and can only apologise. We work hard to keep the system live but have to allow for things to go wrong.
Community posts and other social interaction
If you posted in your community after the backup was taken then you will need to create and send that post again.
The same applies to other social interactions such as follows, invitations, comments etc.
Merge requests
If we merged duplicate profiles after the backup was taken then those profiles will be back to being duplicates again. Please re-request the merge and we will follow again within 24 hours.
Anything else?
In general, anything done manually after the backup was taken will need to be done again, unfortunately, but it shouldn't have been too long ago when you did it before and so, hopefully, you can remember it and it won't take long to recover.
In the period immediately after the database is restored there is likely to be a lot of manual re-entry and results pulling in from the feed systems. This will cause the results processing to be done out of order for these new results so please allow 24 hours for the system to re-process and smooth things out again.
And of course, we apologise for the inconvenience. It's not something we want to do either!
